The Blue Oak Tree

Looks Like
When you hear blue oak, you would think of a blue tree. But,its actually a normal tree, that has brown branches, and green leaves.
Habitat
The blue oak`s habitat is, dry soils in valleys, rolling hills, and lower mountain slopes. You can see them on the right.









Edibility
Medical Uses
The blue oak`s galls can be crushed and used to help cuts and burns.The blue oak`s galls is also used for keeping slugs. and insect`s, live in the galls.
The blue oak`s seed can be edible, but it must be cooked. Back in the old 1900`s, Indians used to eat the seed.
Other Uses
The blue oak`s galls is also used for keeping slugs out. Also, insect`s live in the galls! And, the Indians would mash the seeds and pour water to get the bitter taste out. Its called the leaching process. there`s a lot of steps.
Other Facts
It grows to be 20 to 60 feet tall. It is a food source for black-tailed deer. Songbirds also eat the seeds.
